Bored Randomania

I don't believe a persons intelligence can be measured by their ability to complete a question paper, ergo one should not be judged by their results. Yet that is the necessary mission we must all complete, shackled and whipped. But talking about exams itself is so boring and quite frankly when it boils down to it I am quite nonchalant about the whole thing - if that's the way it is then... meh...

What I think is more interesting is the time period just before and during exams - I shall name it... "Bored Randomania"

BR is what we all struggle to get through and we all suffer trying to do something important and instead start to take interest in things we wouldn't normally be interested in and on some occasions become the perfect "home makers"

A wise student once quoted me this: "Procrastination is like masturbation, it is fun while you are doing it, until you realize that you are only screwing yourself."

And yes we all do it! (Procrastinate... you dirty bastard!) and it is a curse that vexes all students, prep and jock alike.

You know you are procrastinating when:

1. You take a sudden interest in Movies and Series, and believe it is important to be up to date on current entertainment news.
2. You make your bed... twice in one day.
3. You clean your room and offer to make supper AND do the laundry.
4. Facebook and MXiT are new resourceful "colleague information gathering" services.
5. Libraries become the greatest way to LOOK studious and catch up on gossip.
6. Watching people around you becomes super interesting.
7. You masturbate.
8. You make every effort to tell yourself to stay away from "social events" so you can study and then you reward yourself by watching a movie.

Time becomes an enemy and everything blurs together like a big illusion. Nothing seems to be done yet everything seems to be around you.

A cure for procrastination? Well, if I had that answer I wouldn't be typing this blog 3 days before my Math exam.

HINT: What I found to work sometimes, is to make arrangements to study with an estranged acquaintance- when you with them you don't want to look bad so you will be more encouraged to work.

02 June 09 – 06 June 09: Winged Adventure UCT

.
Tuesday: Wesley arrives in Cape Town 16:40, Mom and I arrive to pick him up after we spent the afternoon looking for property brochures. Wesley and I braai for supper then go on to play CS and Bleach vs One Piece map on Warcraft III while talking about our upcoming plans, until about 4am.
Wednesday: We wake up at 11:10, then have egg and bacon for breakfast. After showering for the last time we get ready and changed, packing only 2 t-shirts, a semi-formal shirt, deodorant and hair wax we leave at 2pm. Dropped off that main entrance I show Wesley a basic outline of UCT life at “the steps” and then we helplessly go looking for a toilet at the mathematics building. We met up with Kathleen and Vicky and were introduced to Dominique. We then spoke about that nights plans and afterwards dropped off at lower campus in Kathleen’s cousin’s car.
Vicky, Wesley and I went off to Graca Michelle to visit Mary, she wasn’t there, but after the 2nd attempt we found her (Though we went around the entire establishment before discovering her right next door!). There we met Charlene, and we all decided to go to Cocoa Wawas for “the cookie”. We left and on our way Tando intercepted us and I chatted for a bit and gave him our bag. At Cocoa Wawa we had coffee and “the cookie” which Wes and I couldn’t finish! I had the “gourmet coffee” which was disgusting! Gavin then joined us and after a little chit chat, dropped us back off at Graca. Wesley and I stayed with Mary and Charlene until it was about time to leave for Pirates. Kk and her BF, Iric, picked us up and left for Wyneburg. There we met Train and Alicia. We had the most awesome steak and talked about morality and flexibility of incest.
After Pirates, Wes and I met up with Tando at the Leo Marquad res, it was 9pm and we convinced Tando, inadvertently, to join us to go to Roots, in Obs. After the study snacks we left at 10pm in Fick's bakkie. Roots was empty and we decided to go to Stones. It was packed with people, more guys than girls unfortunately, so we played pool all night, and I lost thrice! We drank a bit since it was get 2 for 1 special and then left for res, numberless and left making a new PUA friend, in the unexpected form of Fick.
Back at the res we were hustled into going for a late night hubbly session by Nick and Thabiso, where Wesley showed off his awesome guitar skills and we all hopelessly sang along until 4am and then were off to bed.
Thursday: Woke up at 11:20, texted Mary and were at her res within 15mins, bag in hand. It was me, Wesley, Charlene, Mary and “Goodhood”. “Goodhood” gave me a contact number for a temp job. We were meant to watch a scary movie, but instead played a hubbly game and ordered pizza and Kauai, which came 1hr and 30mins late! After the pizza we went down the road to catch the “Clarenis” jammy, to meet Vicky and them, but were convinced otherwise by the fact of a long wait and inconvenient timing.
Instead of Springboks, we arranged other plans, due to the rain, to go for sushi at an R88 buffet with May, her sister Amy, Louis, Mary and May’s boyfriend. We were interrupted during our sushi devouring session by Vicky, whom got Wesley to pinky promise him that we’ll go to Springboks later. Train then called and invited us to Cubana for a “few” drinks. After dinner, Amy dropped me and Wesley at Cubana.
Hanging out with Alicia, Train, Michael, Wennie, David (and every other Asian-English name you can think of) was quite an amazing experience. Being the loudest and most fun crowd in the restaurant does have its forte, and it sure is fun! We played (Well I watched mostly) many different Asian drinking games involving many intricate hand signals and MANY Hunters Dry! After drinking quite a few bottles, Wesley demonstrated our high value by over paying before being asked to pay for our drinks while we were on our way out the place. Leaving the hosts very impressed.
Wesley and I then walked to Springboks only to get reassured what I thought earlier – that they won’t accept my recently washed I.D. Wesley went inside to go speak to Vicky and while I stayed outside I recognized a familiar face looking after a familiar bum in the air. It was Kathleen and her ex-boyfriend Adam. She had too much to drink and was on her way home. I think. Wes and I discussed the possible outcome of the night and we decided to call a taxi home for R30.
Friday: Woke up at 10:50 and then went to get cell charger from Mary. We then took the jammy to “Clarinus Village” near Obs to visit Vicky and Wesley’s mates. Wesley’s schoolmate, Nick, took us into the dining hall and suggested we go try and get some free food. So after a failed attempt to convince the lady that we are transferring from Leo Marquad, she called the Supervisor and we bailed. Walking to the nearest Mc Donald’s I came up with the idea that the Groote Schuur hospital is closer and we should go there for lunch. We got inside and got pretty lost. Though we can now say we ventured into a hospital just for the food. After lunch we went back to Claredon (The guy res of the village) and gave Nick his key back and were told to meet up with Wesley’s friend Glen at room 24. There I discovered it was actually my good friend Eric’s dorm where they had been playing Pokemon on the NDS emulator for fun.
To the second half the village we went, to Carinas to be exact, where we met Kim and Tissany. At Vicky’s dorm we smoked hubbly, where they seemed to be quite noobs. We spoke about the night before and the night to come and invited them with our plans for Extreme Hotel.
My sister picked us up from the Village and then took us with her around Rondebosch and Clairemont to do her errands for work. While talking to her, we asked if we could use the car for the night, from that she said “No.” we responded “Drop us there.” She then realized we banked our night on that car. So she dropped us off at the lower campus and we went to Leo Marquad, back at where we started.
There we had a non-soaped-shower, I got a haircut and a new hairstyle and we got ready for that night. It was originally, Me, Wesley, Mary, Charlene, Gavin, Vicky, Kathleen, Dom, Kim, Debbie and May. It then became Me, Wesley and maybe Mary and Charlene. Seemingly lost for hope, Gavin changed his mind due to help from Mary and we went in his car to Extreme Hotel, near Gardens NOT Waterfront. We each had a milkshake, I the Fererra Roche flavour and Wesley the Avo and Apple type and we both had an average overpriced burger. The vibe turned awkward so we moved onto the next place, V & A, where we had cocktails and wine at Belducci’s. At Belducci’s we toasted and discussed who had the worst tasting drink. It was a good evening, despite the constant flow of enticing comments towards me from Mary and Gavin (which I handled but only lead to awkwardness). We then played a joke on Mary and told the waiter she wanted his number. Her response was hilarious and his more so as he rejected it!! Haha!
When the evening was over my mom was supposed to pick us up while the rest left. Mom’s car broke down and we got a taxi to take us to her for R130 (Bargained from R190). There Donovan and his dad sorted us out. We arrived home and chatted and chilled till 4am.
Saturday: Day of departure, 8am and no transport. Wesley and I asked the security guard for a taxi number but no luck. So we left with Wesley’s expensive belongings in hand, and started walking. A black taxi came passed and we called him for service. He charged R250 for special transport to airport. After a very scary trip to a taxi rank we got to the airport with hours to spare. We checked in and had breakfast and then said “See you when I see you.” And the two awesome entities separated once more for our own epic stories and adventures to talk about and share later.
